Getting ready

The night before is for sleep and a bag check, not a new manoeuvre. This list is the practical version of our test-day notes.

UK photocard driving licence in your bag. Old-style paper licence means you also need a valid passport.
A short warm-up lesson if you can, then water and something to eat. Don’t arrive hungry or late.
The car is insured for the test, roadworthy, with L plates (D plates in Wales) and an extra interior mirror.
You can read a number plate at the required distance. The eyesight check is the first thing that can end the test.
You have practised one tell-me and one show-me on this car, not a different one.
You know which centre you are using, and you have driven those approaches with your instructor.
You booked it yourself on GOV.UK. If you are not ready, you move it yourself — not via an app.

Which centre

Renfrewshire core — Paisley, Linwood, Johnstone, Bishopton, Erskine — defaults to Paisley. North of the Clyde starts at Anniesland. South side starts at Shieldhall. Train for that centre, not a hopeful one.
